Olive Day at Fresno State
is a HUGE SUCCESS!
On Tuesday September 29th, Burchell Nursery hosted it’s second Olive Day at Fresno
State University. The event had over 200 registered guests that spent the day listening
to olive experts about high density planting methods, irrigation techniques and upcoming
new varieties. The speakers in attendance were Paul Vosse, UCCE Farm Advisor,
Richard Sawatzky, Bari Olive Oil Company, Gino Favagrossa, Fresno State
Orchard Manager and the keynote speaker was Joan Tous, IRTA Program Director
from Barcelona Spain.
In addition to the speakers, attendees got to watch a mechanical harvester demonstration
at the Fresno State olive orchard, visited with vendors and had a great lunch prepared by
the Fresno State Beef Unit students, Domenic Bavaro, one of the attendee’s had this to say
about the event:
“Tom, I want to take this opportunity, as one of your growers, to complement you
on the outstanding and informative Olive Day that you conducted. The field
demo's, equipment show, vendor booth, and displays, along with an impressive
lunch was no less than perfect.
My sincere complements again to you and your staff for a great event.
Thanks for going the extra distance for your growers.”
Sincerely, Domenic Bavaro
