| The Burchell Nursery is constantly making improvements to our already superior line of walnut varieties and rootstocks. Currently, we are the only nursery that is able to provide our customers with a choice of paradox rootstocks. Through clonal propagation we can multiply selections of paradox rootstock that are disease resistant and black line tolerant. We are introducing a new clonal paradox rootstock in the spring of 2001 that shows phytophthora resistance. Clone 84-121 is available as a paradox rootstock which shows some degree of resistance to the phytophthora disease. Now growers will have a choice of walnut rootstocks to best suit their field conditions. We also offer several self-rooted walnut varieties. These clonal varieties are the standard in the industry except that they are grown on their own root. With the absence of a graft union, the trees will not be susceptible to the black line virus. Currently, we have Chandler, Vina, Serr and Sunland available on their own root for commercial planting. In the near future, we will also have Howard and Tulare available on their own root.

We are offering trees on either Vlach or 84-121 paradox rootstock at the same price as conventional walnut trees on seedling paradox rootstock. The self-rooted Chandler, Vina, Serr, and Sunland varieties will be available for a limited time at a special introductory price.
We know that your orchard is a big investment. The Burchell Nursery is leading the way with innovative rootstocks for walnuts which will make the cost of establishing an orchard more affordable or more resistant to known diseases for a healthier, more productive and longer-lasting orchard.
