We tackle this long-range responsibility day by day, tree by tree. We work the science to create tree varieties and orchard practices that work – that are more economically and environmentally sustainable. It’s just our nature, and has been for over 75 years.

Granted, it’s not easy. That is why Burchell is the only globally-recognized, in-house nut breeding program around. We feel strongly it’s worth making that investment to ensure you get the best trees and the best results from them, in a way that makes the most of and doesn’t harm our planet’s limited resources. We collaborate with nurseries from Chile, Australia, South Africa and Europe — to add new insights to our own ideas.

We put those ideas to the test, adding research rigor into the process.
It’s our passion, one that has spanned three generations of leadership and resulted in the breeding and introduction of dozens of varieties of peaches, nectarines, apricots, apples, plums, cherries, walnuts and of course, almonds – including innovative self-fertile types.  In fact, we have bred and introduced more nut and fruit varieties than any other California nursery.
